We answer 24/7. Arrival time depends on technician availability, weather and travel to your property.

Signs Your Drain Field Needs Attention

  • Soggy ground, standing water or unusually green grass over the field
  • Sewage odor in the yard
  • Slow drains or gurgling in more than one fixture
  • Backups after laundry, heavy water use or rain
  • A septic alarm on a pump or pressure-dosed system

These signs can also come from a blocked line, a failed pump or a distribution problem, which is why we diagnose before recommending a repair. See signs your drain field is failing in the mountains.

How We Assess a Drain Field

We start with the system records you have, then locate and check the accessible parts of the system: the tank outlet, the distribution box or manifold, the lines and the field area. On pump and pressure-dosed systems we also check the pump, floats and controls. A sewer camera can help assess accessible lines when relevant.

From what we find, we explain whether the problem is a repairable component or a field that can no longer accept water, and what the options are.

Drain Field Repair and Replacement

Depending on the findings, work can include repairing or replacing broken lines, repairing or replacing a distribution box, correcting pump and control problems, and partial or full drain field replacement. Repairs and replacements are planned around the site, access and the permit requirements from the county health department.

If the tank or system needs to be replaced as well, see septic installation and replacement. For pump and alarm problems, see septic pump and alarm repair.

Septic Pumping Is Coordinated, Not Done In-House

We do not pump septic tanks. When a tank needs pumping before or during drain field work, we coordinate it with local pumpers so you have one point of contact.

Drain Field Questions

How do I know if my drain field is failing?

Common signs include soggy or unusually green ground over the field, sewage odors outside, slow drains or gurgling across the house, and backups after heavy water use or rain. Read more in signs your drain field is failing.

Can a drain field be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?

It depends on what is wrong. A broken line, a failed distribution box or a pump problem can often be repaired. A field that no longer accepts water may need partial or full replacement. We assess the system first and explain the options.

Will pumping the tank fix a drain field problem?

Pumping can relieve a backup for a short time but does not repair a drain field. We do not pump tanks; when pumping is needed, we coordinate it with local pumpers while we handle the assessment and repair.

Do drain field repairs need a permit?

Many repairs and all replacements require a permit from the county health department in North Carolina. We explain what applies to your system before work begins.

Do you work on drip and pressure-dosed systems?

Yes. We assess drip and pressure-manifold systems, including their pumps, floats and controls, and plan repairs from what we find.

What areas do you serve?

Asheville, Buncombe County and surrounding Western North Carolina counties, including Henderson, Haywood, Madison, Transylvania, Jackson and Macon.
